2024

"Don't be into trends. Don't make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live."

—Gianni Versace

It happens every year, the big push on what the new trend is to keep your eye out for that year. From Pantone, releasing their color of the year - Peach Fuzz, bridal magazines publish their bridal gown trend as well as fashion dos and don’ts. So, as you scroll through Instagram or Pinterest, you suddenly find yourself on a reel posted about what someone predicts will be seen at weddings all over. However, that’s all they are, they are theories, advice that could be helpful when planning your wedding. But, even as a designer, I would say it is not the end all be all, advice because it is your wedding day and it is about more than just trends at the end of the day.

When talking with potential clients, more often, I’ll get asked what other clients have done. Most of us are planning our wedding for the first time, we do not know what is normal and if we are going off Pinterest, Instagram, or Bridal magazine’s expectations, it can quickly become confusing and overwhelming.

So as a designer, a wedding vendor, and a non-band-wagoner … sorry babies breath, not jumping on your train! These are things that even three years ago, we are loving and just as excited to see in this wedding season.

Wedding trends 2024 - wedding inspiration
  • Something that I believe will never go out of style is putting thought into the details. Whether it is in the name cards, fruit on the table, styled menus, or simply the style of cups on the menu. When your guests sit down, they will immediately know that this evening is special. One of my favorite weddings was when the couple who were in the Air Force used their friend’s code names as their name cards. This small detail will stay with their guest forever and makes your wedding stand out from the rest.

  • Just like my work is an extension of my passion and love of what I get to do, your bridal bouquet is that for you. Something I love asking potential clients when thinking about their bouquet, is when they close their eyes - what do you see? What are the colors, style, and size? For some, it is all about the trend that year, and that is fine, for others as they describe their vision, quickly what they were not sure about starts to unravel into their bouquet, one that they will cherish for years to come.

  • If you have ever had a packed summer with one wedding after the next, you know how quickly it can start to feel very repetitive. So, make it personal, add your favorite late-night snack - tacos, spicy popcorn, or sliders. Bring in a cultural element, two families are coming together, and what a great opportunity to honor that. Another way is picking a venue or location. By choosing one or two locations that mean something to you or tie your wedding style together, can be a subtle way to personalize your wedding - it also helps with the floral design :) . Other simpler ways to personalize are specialty cocktails or table numbers.

  • The previous points all can be implemented into this point right here, keeping it small and intimate. If your budget is tight, or you simply prefer having only your closest family and friends there for your wedding, this is a trend that I think will never die. You get to personalize your evening, you can bring in small, beautiful details, and your florals can make a big impact.

  • As a photographer currently, and having previous wedding experience, photography in my opinion I would never skimp on! Why - because when the evening is all said and done, your guests go home and you fly off to your honeymoon, it’s the photos that you will look back on. And good photographers who can capture not only the pictures your grandmother will hang on their frig but the moments that happen in-between, the guest’s laughter, the tear that falls down your face when hearing toasts and speeches - Find a photographer that can document your wedding for it is a moment in time that cannot be duplicated.

  • Color as well as bringing in patterns into a wedding, I hope never goes out of style. Color has such an impact on a wedding, it can set the mood and with flowers create a whole new atmosphere for your guests. With minimalism making its way into the wedding world, the color palettes are following suit. Tonal color palettes are getting a moment in the wedding and event world, where a single color finds itself showing up in napkin colors, candle shades, as well as flowers. And as we work with the venue itself, it is only nature that the environment naturally is enhanced due to the use of a color and incorporating patterns.
